The board also approved a bus purchase from Holt Truck Center for 10 units — eight with hydraulic brakes and two with air brakes — at a total price of $1,369,434 from bond funds. A district operations presenter said Holt will include an extended warranty at no charge for seven years. Board members discussed the decision to add two air‑brake buses as a means to license and train drivers on air‑brake systems; a staff member said the additional cost for air brakes is about $3,000 per bus.
On services and staffing, the board approved a contract with Reese Wolf Davis for speech therapy services up to 20 hours per week, and it approved a contract with Sign Language Resource Services Incorporated for contracted interpreter services while the district posts a new sign‑language interpreter job description. The board also approved a $0 subscription arrangement with Amira Learning to reserve reading‑intervention capacity tied to the state’s Strong Readers Act and said it will continue this year to use Istation as the district’s universal screener.
The board adopted several policy updates required for an upcoming accreditation visit, including a new district policy on health services and communicable diseases, procedures for outside service providers and related provider agreement forms, revisions to grading/promotion/retention policy to conform with the Strong Readers Act, and student‑activity and voluntary prayer policies.
Most items were approved on single motions and passed by roll call. The superintendent and staff emphasized the district’s intent to keep projects on schedule and to provide subsequent implementation updates to the board.
