Bethany board approves consent agenda, encumbrances, contracts, trips and multiple personnel items

The Bethany Public Schools Board approved a range of routine business items at its April meeting, including minutes, financial reports, encumbrances, contracts, out-of-state trips and personnel addenda.
On the consent agenda, administrators presented internal, building, bond and activity fund reports and explained a small number of projected negative balances as timing issues or encumbrances (one large encumbrance reflected a roof PO of about $967,000 that will be handled through a payment plan and accounting adjustments). The board approved minutes and the financial reports after some clarifying discussion about activity deposits and encumbrances.
Under item 7 the board approved general-fund encumbrances and change orders, including modest upcharges on turf-related line items and purchase orders for facility improvements. The board discussed security door issues at an elementary campus and agreed to address the south-door hardware (center mullion) to improve locking reliability.
Board members approved fiscal year 2025 temporary appropriations (item 8) noting the numbers are very similar to the previous year. The board also approved several FY25 contracts (item 12) including E-rate and picture/ID-related services (Oklahoma School Pictures and SafeSchool ID were discussed) and approved out-of-town trips for the boys golf team (regional and potential state tournament travel) to be charged to the activity account.
After a proposed executive session, the board returned to open session and approved multiple personnel addenda: certified administrative personnel (addendum A), supported administrative personnel (addendum B), regular certified personnel (addendum C), temporary certified personnel (addendum D), extra duty personnel for remainder of 23–24 and 24–25 (addendum E) and accepted resignations listed in addendum F. All personnel motions were approved by roll-call votes.
The meeting concluded with staff reports highlighting student achievements, a district Teacher of the Year recognition and the announcement of Brandon Nyberg as the district's new full-time activities director.
