Summary
At the Feb. 24 meeting DuPage County presented a proclamation to Dr. Lawrence Van Ooyen for founding Chords for Kids and recognized Rula Echosithecales for 25 years of county service; Chair Conroy also announced county semiquincentennial events.
The DuPage County Board used part of its Feb. 24 meeting to present community recognitions and announce events.
Chair Deborah A. Conroy read a proclamation honoring Dr. Lawrence Van Ooyen, music professor at North Central College, and the North Central Concert Winds Ensemble for the 19th annual Chords for Kids concert at Wentz Auditorium on Feb. 28. The event, described in the proclamation as a free, inclusive concert for children with special needs and their families under the motto "Wigglers Welcome," was noted as Van Ooyen's final concert before retirement.
The board also presented a 25‑year service award to Rula Echosithecales, recognizing her tenure in facilities management and, most recently, as highway maintenance coordinator in the Division of Transportation. Transportation Director Steve Travia praised Echosithecales' procurement work and support during snow and ice operations.
Chair Conroy announced county semiquincentennial plans to begin in March with a 'Snapshots of DuPage' countywide photo contest, a time capsule with mayors and village presidents on the Wheaton campus this summer, and partnerships with Choose DuPage, the historical museum, and Power Forward DuPage for youth mural projects.
