The PECS committee approved an allocation not to exceed $56,160 to Compassionate Atlanta to coordinate a living sculpture, community workshops and programming on the Stone Mountain Trail, aiming to create a "Compassionate Corridor" from Clarkston to Scottdale.
Commissioner Terry said $40,000 of the funding is covered by existing CIP allocations and the remainder will support programming; the proposal includes art installations and community education sessions and seeks to start coordination and design meetings in December to meet a spring installation timeline. "We're creating a themed series of art along the trail, and want to begin design work this winter," he told the committee.
Procurement staff previously advised that public art often qualifies for a special procurement exemption, allowing selection of artists outside the typical RFP process; the committee approved the motion by voice vote.
