Athens announces waterline work, community events and meeting schedule

During the weekly update Mayor Steve Patterson provided a series of local announcements: infrastructure work on Jacobs Drive, community center events, and meeting schedules.
Patterson said the Jacobs Drive waterline project will improve service near the Fina neighborhood and the future Athens County community children’s services facility, and warned of temporary travel impacts as work proceeds. "This is a good improvement that's going to benefit the city, especially when this facility becomes annexed into the city," he said.
On community programming, the mayor promoted the Monday Morning Mingle, organized by Katherine Ann Jordan, director of arts, parks and recreation, and sponsored by Tim Hortons, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the community center. He also announced the Athens Community Center Fam Jam on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.; admission is $3 per person. Summer camp registration begins Sunday, March 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Community Center Multipurpose Room A; Patterson said registration costs $25.
Patterson reminded listeners that the Athens City Council meets regularly on Mondays at 7 p.m. in council chambers and that the Planning Commission will meet Wednesday, March 4 at noon to consider cases. The update also included local sports scheduling and promotions but no formal votes or budget actions were recorded during these announcements.
