Board honors respiratory therapists as county marks Respiratory Care Week

Orange County supervisors on Oct. 22 recognized Respiratory Care Week, honoring respiratory therapists’ role in patient care and highlighting county-wide service metrics provided by UCI Health representatives.
"They've managed over 35,000 ventilator days, assisting nearly 10,000 patients here in the county," Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento said while introducing the UCI team. UCI’s respiratory-care leadership described network expansion into community sites and said the system employs roughly 300 respiratory-care practitioners.
Board members thanked respiratory-care workers for their pandemic response and ongoing work treating chronic respiratory conditions. The recognition included brief remarks from vice chair Doug Chaffee and a presentation by UCI Health leadership, who said the county-resolved plaque would be displayed across UCI facilities.
The item was ceremonial; no new contracts or funding changes were adopted during the recognition.
