Board recognizes Donate Life, Child Abuse Prevention and Cambodian Heritage months

At the start of its April 22 meeting the Orange County Board of Supervisors issued three proclamations recognizing community observances for April.
Chair Doug Chaffee introduced a proclamation for Donate Life Month, noting national and state transplant statistics (the transcript cites more than 114,000 Americans awaiting transplants and more than 114,000 nationally) and local transplant activity, including 138 kidney transplants at UCI Medical Center last year. Dr. Robert Hill, a heart and kidney transplant recipient, spoke about donor generosity and urged residents to register as organ donors.
The board also recognized Child Abuse Prevention Month. Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento, Supervisor Katrina Foley and representatives from the Social Services Agency and District Attorney’s Office described 2024 referral figures (the Social Services Agency cited over 26,172 referrals countywide and Sarmiento cited 6,708 referrals in parts of his district) and outlined prevention, reporting and prosecution roles. The board reiterated resources including the county child‑abuse hotline numbers (as read in the meeting's remarks).
Finally, the board proclaimed April as Cambodian Heritage Month. County and community leaders invited Cambodian Family representatives and local elected officials to the dais to mark the organization’s 45 years of service to refugees and immigrant families, highlight Cambodian New Year (Chol Chnam Thmay) celebrations and note community contributions, including small‑business entrepreneurship.
All three proclamations were presented by the board and included invited remarks from community leaders and agency representatives.
