Roanoke council adopts Title VI implementation plan after VDOT approval

Council voted to approve the City of Roanoke’s Title VI implementation plan after city staff reported that the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Salem District Civil Rights Office had approved the plan on Sept. 26, 2024.
Angela Vernon (city staff) told council the plan process began in 2022, identified the city’s Local Public Agency coordinator and credited the city attorney’s office and public works staff for their assistance. "We did receive approval on our Title 6 plan from the Virginia Department of Transportation, Salem District Civil Rights Office, and we received that on 09/26/2024," Angela said during the meeting. Staff also said Roanoke was selected to pilot VDOT’s automation tool and will submit an annual report; the plan will need renewal in 2027.
The council moved and passed the resolution with a unanimous roll call. No amendments or funding changes were made during the session.
