Roanoke officials announce HUD grant to continue Lead Safe Roanoke services

"We're excited that for an additional 4 years, we'll be able to continue to provide services," Katie Kennedy said, describing staff roles: a site coordinator who inspects properties, an intake coordinator to enroll applicants quickly and an education/outreach coordinator. City staff and council members noted the program’s role during Lead Poisoning Prevention Week and encouraged residents to seek help if worried about housing and children under age 6.
A council member later referenced a different figure during congratulatory remarks (6,650,000); meeting remarks did not reconcile the two totals on the record. City staff present asked that residents who need help contact the program for enrollment information. No new city appropriation was made at the meeting; the award was announced as part of presentations and acknowledgments.
