At the Dec. 16 meeting council approved a resolution electing and appointing Kelvin C. Bratton as director of real estate valuation for the City of Roanoke and ratified the terms and conditions of his employment by unanimous roll call.
Council also moved to table an ordinance to reappoint the city attorney, city clerk and municipal auditor for a term ending Sept. 30, 2026 until the evening session; the motion to table was seconded and passed by roll call. No substantive discussion of reappointment candidates occurred in the public portion of the meeting.
Finally, a motion to enter closed session under Virginia Code §2.2-3711(A)(1) was made and seconded; the clerk called the roll and the motion carried. Council recessed and planned to reconvene at 7:00 p.m. for the closed-session work.
Next steps: the tabled reappointment will be taken up in the evening session; the closed session will proceed under the statutory personnel exemption.
