Roanoke accepts donated parcels for proposed Fire Station No. 2 on Williamson Road

Roanoke City Council voted unanimously on Dec. 16 to accept real property rights donated by Bergland Chevrolet Inc. and Farrell Properties Limited Company for the proposed Fire Station No. 2 project on Williamson Road.
The clerk read the ordinance title listing the tax map parcel numbers to be accepted by the city. Representatives of the Farrell family (identified as William and Bruce Farrell) stood for recognition and the fire chief described the project's timeline: the city has secured a firm to design the station, expects a design phase of roughly nine months, and then will move to procurement of a contractor for construction.
The chief said acquiring the adjoining parcels will allow the city to design a “state-of-the-art” station that improves response times and provides a forward-facing public-safety presence along Williamson Road and the surrounding areas. Council members thanked the Farrell family and recorded unanimous Aye votes to approve the ordinance.
Next steps called out by the fire chief include community input during design and procurement of a construction contractor following the design phase; no construction start date or budget figures were specified during the meeting.
