Spencer board approves police vehicle purchase; chief reports fentanyl seizure

The Town of Spencer board unanimously approved Budget Ordinance 25-11.01 on Feb. 10, authorizing the police department to purchase a 2025 Toyota Tacoma under state contract pricing to replace an aging vehicle.
Town staff explained the vehicle purchase was negotiated under state contract and would be funded in part by current savings from unfilled positions; the replaced vehicle will be reclassified to part-time status and sold. The board made, seconded and approved the motion unanimously.
During the departmental reports, the police chief reported the department recorded about 2,175 activities for the month, is processing a lateral applicant from South Carolina expected to join by mid-March, and highlighted a narcotics seizure. "We had a pretty, pretty good fentanyl bust this month, about 30 grams," the chief said, estimating a street value of roughly $6,000 and an estimated drug-tax valuation of about $8,200 that could, if collected, return funds to the community.
The chief also noted the department is using field training for one officer and continues recruitment to fill vacancies. The board did not attach additional funding to the vehicle ordinance beyond the appropriation in Ordinance 25-11.01.
