The Fulton City School District has begun a process to replace its existing policy manual with a new manual produced through Erie 1 BOCES, administrators told the board on Feb. 24.
Administrators said Erie 1 provided a district questionnaire and is drafting a new manual; a first draft is expected in about a month. The district’s current policy manual will remain in effect until the new manual is completed and adopted. The policy committee will review the draft policies before broader board consideration, administrators said.
Several board members urged caution. A long-serving member warned that a wholesale rewrite could lose policies and community conversations built over many years. Administrators responded that Erie 1 will flag policies that appear unique or missing and that the policy committee will have the opportunity to preserve locally important policies during the review.
The change will be phased: the policy committee will examine the Erie 1 draft, highlight items to keep or revise, and present recommendations to the full board; administrators said the process will continue through the summer with implementation rolling into the next school year.
The district emphasized there will be opportunities for board and community input before final approval.
