Brandywine names Springer math teacher Jeanette Madison 2025 Teacher of the Year

Jeanette Madison, a Springer Middle School math teacher, was honored as Brandywine School District’s 2025 Teacher of the Year at the board’s November meeting.
Dalithia McIntyre, director of human resources, introduced Madison and asked the audience to applaud the district winner and the building teachers of the year. Leslie Armour, supervisor of HR, called building winners forward from each school. Principal Dr. Siemens of Springer Middle School described Madison’s work and impact, saying, “Miss Madison makes everyone around her a better person and therefore makes Springer a better place to learn and work.”
Madison, who said she has taught at Springer since 2005, described classroom practices she uses to increase student voice and engagement, including random grouping and board work that encourages collaboration. She described a classroom affirmation and a check‑in form she calls “I Can Handle It,” which students can use to discreetly signal they need support.
The district recognized a full slate of building winners from Brandywine High, the early education program, Parcroft, Claymont, Concord High School, Forward, Hamby, Harlan, Lake O’Shire, Lombardi, Maple Lane, Mount Pleasant, PS DuPont Middle School, and Cali Middle School. The board and HR leaders said the recognition aims to celebrate teaching excellence across grade levels.
The award presentation was followed by remarks from building leaders and a short video highlighting Madison’s work. The ceremony concluded with applause and appreciation from board members and the audience.
