Community group outlines progress on proposed county park, site plans with DEQ underway

Lisa Deese, president of the Hometown Community Association, told the Board that the association has continued planning work on a county community park meant to serve all ages and abilities. Using a Hill Studio design, CHCA hired AES Consulting Engineers in September 2024 to prepare ready‑to‑dig site plans; Deese told supervisors the cost for the site plans was $138,900.
Deese said AES submitted the plans to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality on Sept. 8, 2025, and the consultants are working through DEQ comments. She said the association hopes to have final ready‑to‑dig plans by early spring, at which point grant applications and larger fundraising efforts will follow. The park concept includes a barn‑like two‑story entrance with accessible restrooms and a small meeting room, an amphitheater repurposed from a silo, an accessible playground, walking trails and covered pavilions for farmers markets and events.
Deese acknowledged the project is not fully funded and emphasized continued local fundraising and donor support, noting upcoming events including a March 28 spaghetti dinner and a May 30 auction. She invited the Board and residents to follow progress on CHCA’s website and social media.
