Parks staff updated the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on completed maintenance and recent events during the Aug. 12 meeting. Staff reported completion of an LED lighting upgrade at Ozi and asphalt repairs at Carshield Field in advance of an Aug. 18 overlay. Several Sports Park fields (1–3, 6–12) were closed for summer maintenance, with fields 4 and 5 remaining open; Dames Park Field 2 will remain closed for the rest of the summer for work.
Staff said the cricket field at Sports Park is closed for the season and will be relocated and reconfigured to add a second pitch, with both fields expected to be available by spring 2026. Staff thanked employees for maintaining parks under recent extreme heat.
On events, staff provided a Heritage & Freedom Fest recap. Reported on-site revenues included ice sales $1,900; parking $17,000; vendor fees $26,600; vendor electric $2,800; sponsorships $24,000; parade entries $2,500; and artist merchandise $493, which the presenter summarized as about $114,600 in festival revenues. Speaker 7 noted attendance and revenue were slightly down from previous years and cited heat and changing entertainment trends as possible factors.
A board member also relayed a positive patron report about renting the Kreckle Center for a 90th birthday, praising staff and the kitchen services. Because the meeting lacked a quorum, the items were informational and required no formal board action.
