Hamtramck awards Playfair Park concrete subcontract to Parks Conservancy

The Hamtramck City Council on Feb. 24 approved a resolution awarding a subcontract to Hamtramck Parks Conservancy to manage concrete work and installation of a fitness area at Playfair Park. The project will use $100,000 in funds provided by Wayne County (PGBG funds) and, according to staff, requires no additional city dollars.
City staff said the county funds cover materials and installation (roughly $60,000 for concrete and about $30,000–$40,000 for installation) and recommended working with the Parks Conservancy as the single, clear partner to oversee the project without a public bid. Council members asked about start timing and public presentations on past conservancy projects; staff indicated construction likely will begin in April when weather allows.
Council approved the resolution. Staff will coordinate the conservancy’s oversight and return information about project timeline and outreach as work proceeds.
