Lewis County approves veterans advisory appointment, Teamsters contract and distressed-counties representatives

LEWIS COUNTY, Wash. — At its Feb. 17 meeting, the Lewis County Board of Commissioners approved several deliberation items that included advisory board appointments and a collective bargaining agreement.
Mija Hamlin, director of Lewis County Public Health and Social Services, presented resolution 26-059 to appoint Joshua Pickett as an alternate member of the veterans advisory board, with a term beginning March 1, 2026 and ending Feb. 29, 2028. Hamlin said two current members — Patrick Swanson and Ed Smith — were being removed because they resigned or their terms expired. "This is to appoint a new advisory board member as well as, appoint 2 members to the voting portion of the veterans advisory board," Hamlin said.
Joshua Pickett introduced himself to the commissioners, said he served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, attended Centralia College, and works at the City of Chehalis Parks and Recreation department. "I grew up in Onalaska, Washington," Pickett said.
Human resources staff presented resolution 26-060, described by Rachel Lester as approval of a collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 252 representing Lewis County Sheriff's support staff. Reba Lester, clerk of the board, presented resolution 26-061 to appoint representatives from the BOCC, ports of Chehalis and Centralia, the East Lewis County Public Development Authority, county cities, the industrial commission and the economic alliance to the 0.09 distressed counties board for terms through year-end.
Commissioner (name not provided) moved to approve the deliberation items (resolutions 26-059 through 26-061); the motion was seconded and approved 2-0. The record does not include details of collective bargaining contract terms or salary impacts discussed during the meeting.
