The recreation committee reported early registration numbers for the spring baseball season, discussed planned facility upgrades and outlined current staffing vacancies.
The host (name not given) said 71 children are registered for baseball so far and provided an age-group breakdown: "71 currently registered. That is 8 in the kindergarten level, 21 first and second graders, 22 third and fourth graders, 13 fifth and sixth graders and 7 seventh and eighth graders." The host said nonresidents will be waitlisted to preserve spots for city children.
The committee said work is planned at the youth sports complex to upgrade scoreboards and lights so the fields can be used throughout spring and summer. The host said replacements and upgrades will support game operations and the concession stand.
On staffing, the host reported two permanent part‑time positions and two seasonal part‑time positions are open; the committee promoted Anna Collias to the recreation leader position, creating one of the vacancies. The host praised Collias's performance in the new role.
Members discussed volunteer support and training, noting recent active shooter training for staff offered by the city's insurer, upcoming AED/CPR sessions and planned concussion‑protocol training for coaches. Coach Miles and other staff said training and onboarding are ongoing to prepare for the season.
The committee closed by reminding members the next meeting is March 31 and that additional registration and staffing details will be circulated before then.
