Brandy Johnson, an online public commenter, told the Luna County Board of County Commissioners during public comment that the board should vote to move regular meetings to evening hours so more constituents can attend after work. "I encourage you to vote to move these meetings to an evening time frame," Johnson said, adding she would have attended in person if the meeting were held later.
Johnson told the board that many residents say they cannot come because they are at work when daytime meetings are scheduled. "Even our own commissioner Trejo mentioned in a meeting last year that he would have had more constituents at that meeting, but they were at work at that time of day," she said. The comment came while the board was accepting public input; no formal vote on changing meeting times was recorded that day.
Caller Christian phoned in to support the proposal, saying he had previously placed the evening-meetings item on the agenda and that making meetings accessible is important. "I like you feel that this is a very important thing that we do everything that we possibly can to open our meetings so that our constituents can attend and express their opinion," Christian said.
County staff did not report a decision during the session. The item is on the board agenda for consideration; the transcript records public advocacy and supportive remarks but no formal action or vote on the schedule change during this meeting.
