The Luna County Board of County Commissioners elected Commissioner Christy Ann Harvey as chair for 2026 and approved a slate of routine business during its regular meeting.
Outgoing chair Commissioner Chandler nominated Christy Ann Harvey; Commissioner Trejo supported the nomination and Harvey accepted, saying she was “deeply honored.” The commission voted in favor and the chairpersonship transferred immediately.
The board approved the work-session minutes for Dec. 18, 2025, after a motion, second and roll-call vote. Commissioners then addressed the consent agenda; staff identified an incorrect amount in resolution “26 10” (budget transfers) and redlined item 5 for correction at the next meeting. With that amendment, the consent agenda passed by roll call (Commissioners Trejo, Harvey and Chandler voting yes).
On new business, the commission debated a staff-proposed schedule of meeting dates and times. After discussion about public attendance, convenience for staff and past evening meetings, Commissioner Trejo moved to set monthly meetings at 1:30 p.m.; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously by roll call.
The board recessed and convened as the claims board to consider indigent claims. The claims report showed 17 claims for December (15 tied to the detention center) totaling $2,648.33; commissioners voted to accept the claims report and then reconvened as the county commission.
Other routine actions included approval of Resolution ‘2,613’ on elected-official reporting (motion and unanimous roll-call vote). The meeting then continued with presentations and community reports.
