The Wasilla Airport Advisory Committee addressed administrative business and public comment at its Nov. 20 meeting, noting a board vacancy, approving meeting dates and taking public input from regional airport staff and tenants.
Staff told the panel that longtime member Charles Morris is leaving the board and that the city has an open seat; applicants may apply online or with a paper application that goes to the mayor for selection.
The committee accepted the proposed 2026 meeting dates as presented after a motion and second; the chair confirmed there were no objections and the dates were accepted without a formal roll‑call vote.
During public comment, John Deventi, airport manager for the city of Palmer, gave a brief update on Palmer Airport projects and commended Wasilla for aligning some fees. Deventi said Palmer converted some lighting to LEDs and is planning a master plan process and an appraisal that will be shared when complete; he invited Wasilla staff to collaborate on regional planning.
Tenant Harry Zola urged staff to make the comparative‑airport study and packet available, reminding the board that earlier public opposition did not prevent a prior rate increase. Staff (Mister Shaw) said the packet is available and staff will provide it or rehost it and collect contact information to email it to interested tenants.
Staff also reported tours for congressional staff and council members and that they are evaluating a localized activity‑tracking product to improve flight/activity counts for FAA planning. With no other business, the chair adjourned the meeting.
