Wasilla launches Wasilla2045 outreach, sets 2026 target for draft plan

DOW project manager Laquita Chimalowski said the draft vision reads: "Wasilla is a family centered community that leads Alaska in responsible, innovative growth while preserving small town values, supporting local opportunity, and enhancing quality of life." Chimalowski said staff and the steering committee have used community open houses, presentations to groups (Wasilla Sunrise Rotary, Wasilla Chamber of Commerce, Valley Board of Realtors), and a public survey to shape the plan.
Chimalowski described current outreach tools: an interactive project map and meeting summaries on the project website (wasilla2045.com) and a project email (wasilla2045@dow.com) to sign up for updates. She said the steering committee includes approximately 13 community members working on sections such as public facilities, transportation and economic development.
On timing, Chimalowski said work will continue through spring with additional open houses; the team expects to present a draft plan in the fall and aims for adoption in 2026, though the schedule is "a little bit fluid" to allow for robust public engagement.
What’s next: residents can use the interactive map and email address to provide input; the planning commission will receive future updates and will review draft goals, objectives and implementation strategies as they are prepared.
