Student speakers described state-level placements across shooting-sports events and competitive categories and explained trip costs: registration was listed at $3,025 for the group, required polos $385, lodging $31,096 and meals $5,775; staff recorded travel distance at roughly 760 miles from Lovington to Grand Island. The students asked the commission to consider a $5,000 donation to help with registration, lodging and travel costs.
Commissioners praised the students’ accomplishments and asked about other fundraising efforts; the 4‑H group said they are pursuing local business sponsors, car washes, bake sales and a presence at an upcoming community event to raise additional funds. Commissioners indicated the request would be considered at a subsequent agenda action item and congratulated the students on their qualifications for nationals.
