Lee County commissioners approve multiple district appropriations, donations and vendor awards

Lee County commissioners on April 1 approved a slate of routine appropriations, donations and vendor awards intended to support local schools, parks, fair operations and airport infrastructure.
The commission unanimously approved several district discretionary appropriations brought forward by commissioners: $200,000 from District 2 for a Hawk crosswalk system for Hobbs Municipal Schools (Resolution 25 APR-112R); $200,000 from District 2 to complete portable buildings at the county animal shelter (Resolution 25 APR-113R); $150,000 from District 2 for Lovington baseball and softball field improvements (Resolution 25 APR-114R); and $150,000 from District 1 for baseball and softball fields in Lubbockton (Resolution 25 APR-115R). Commissioners moved and seconded each motion and adopted them by roll-call vote.
The commission also approved administrative and intergovernmental items. Staff presented Resolution 25 APR-117R to donate two county vehicles—a fire truck and a standard truck—to the Town of Tatum; the donation was approved unanimously.
Procurement and contract approvals tied to the Lee County Fair and Rodeo were also adopted. The board approved awarding a 24-hour security services contract for the fair to Superior Security Services, veterinary services for the event to HD Veterinary Services, and entertainment catering to Joy Catering. Wyatt Duncan, fairgrounds director, said awards followed solicitation to multiple local vendors and that the vendors have provided these services in recent years.
Finally, staff presented grant- and airport-related items that were approved on voice or roll-call votes, including acceptance of a state aviation grant and associated local match for runway lighting at JAL (see separate article for details).
All votes recorded during these agenda items were unanimous in favor unless otherwise noted. The meeting proceeded to additional action and discussion items after the votes described above.
