Commission staff explained the Eddie–Lea collaboration includes elected representatives from Eddy County, Lea County, the city of Hobbs and the city of Carlsbad and is evaluating property near the Eddy–Lea county line as a potential site. The resolution, as presented, allows the county to be “in play” for DOE consideration and authorizes county board members to participate on Eddie–Lea’s board as it determines next steps; any formal revenue‑sharing or binding agreements with Holtec would require separate approval by the county’s governing body.
The commission recorded a motion, a second and a unanimous vote to approve the resolution.
What’s next: Staff said any future negotiated agreements or revenue‑sharing arrangements with a private partner would return to the commission for formal action.
