Lee County commissioners on Jan. 16 approved a cooperative services purchase for a body scanner at the detention center and renewed several intergovernmental housing agreements.
Mark Gallegos presented the request for an Apex Solutions body scanner, describing it as an X‑ray type scanner that will deter and detect contraband and reduce the frequency of advanced pat searches. The quoted purchase price was $184,826.44; commissioners voted to approve the purchase.
Gallegos also presented renewal agreements with Eddy County, Roosevelt County and Pueblo Zleta to house adult and juvenile detainees. He said Lee County reserves primary beds for county detainees and can decline out‑of‑county transfers when capacity is limited. The commission discussed per‑diem rates noted in the agreements: $150 per day for adult detainees and $300 per day for juveniles, the latter cited as higher because juvenile housing requires mandated educational programming.
Commissioners approved the scanner purchase and the intergovernmental housing agreements by roll call. Staff will proceed with procurement and continue to manage bed availability and per‑diem invoicing under the contracts.
