Curry County authorizes $1 million CDBG application to upgrade ADA showers at detention center

The commission approved Resolution 2025-65 authorizing submission of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application to the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration local government division. Kristin Pratt presented the application request: $1,000,000 in CDBG funding with a cash match up to $590,000 for a total project cost not to exceed $1,590,000 to complete ADA shower improvements at the detention center.
Pratt said the application is due Aug. 19 and award notifications typically follow later in the year. County staff advised that the cash match noted is not currently budgeted; if awarded, the county would transfer funds from reserves into a CDBG account via a future budget resolution. Commissioners asked about whether the commission chair as CEO should be the authorized signatory on the application; Pratt said it has been the practice to list the commission or commission chair on the application and that manager Pyle later assumed signatory authority on executed contracts.
A motion to approve Resolution 2025-65 passed on roll call with all present voting yes.
Next steps: staff will file the application by the deadline and, if awarded, bring a budget resolution to appropriate the match from reserves.
