Commission approves commercial barn construction, electrical work and courthouse change order; fairgrounds upgrades move forward

The Curry County Commission approved multiple capital and construction items affecting the fairgrounds and courthouse during its Dec. 16 meeting.

Public-works staff presented Change Order #1 for the courthouse sally port and secure parking lot—primarily additional fencing and related adjustments—which is funded through additional AOC (Administrative Office of the Courts) grant funds and totals $98,504.55. The commission approved the change order after staff confirmed no additional county funds were required.

Commissioners also approved moving forward with construction of the commercial barn per a proposal from Nick Grego & Sons; the total proposal cost listed in the packet was $553,924.22. Funding for the commercial barn will draw on capital-outlay funds and previously freed grant dollars. The commission then approved electrical work for the commercial barn under an existing contract (Schneider/Snyder’s Electric) at $77,284.38; additional electrical costs related to a transformer were noted as forthcoming.

Commissioners discussed sequencing work, possible additional items (transformers, fire sprinklers), and the need to monitor total project scope to avoid exceeding budget allocations. Staff said some items will appear on future agendas as costs are finalized.

What’s next: Staff will proceed with procurement and scheduling under the approved budgets and return to the commission with additional line-item costs as they are finalized.
