The Village of Riverwoods Board of Trustees on Sept. 2 approved a four-year memorandum of understanding with the Metropolitan Alliance of Police (chapter referenced in meeting materials as "Chapter 330"). The board took the action after returning from an executive session called to discuss collective-bargaining terms.
Village attorney Bruce Hovard summarized the contract during open session as a four-year deal that provides "salary increases and changes in holiday pay," and said the agreement includes side letters addressing officer-involved shooting investigations and use-of-force procedures. Hovard told trustees the union had signed off on the memorandum of understanding prior to the vote.
Mayor Ford and trustees did not debate the substance of the MOU at length in open session; counsel offered the board a brief overview so the public would understand the main provisions before the vote. After a motion and second, the board approved the agreement by roll-call vote; the clerk recorded the ayes and the mayor declared the motion carried.
The agreement will affect the village general-fund labor budget and was taken up in the current budget season. Trustees had previously previewed the topic in executive session to allow negotiation on terms. The board did not discuss any specific monetary figures for each year in open session; such details were included in the contract and supporting materials presented to trustees and staff.
The board recessed after the vote and then adjourned the Sept. 2 meeting.
