Weston plans Holocaust Remembrance Day assemblies and an Anne Frank traveling exhibit, PTO funds docent program

Weston Public Schools told the curriculum subcommittee on Jan. 7 that Holocaust Remembrance Day programming will run Jan. 27 with grade-appropriate assemblies and additional sign-up opportunities to hear survivor testimony.
Shauna Johnson, the district’s 6–12 social studies leader, said every child will hear a speaker (Annie Beistren) and that a Holocaust survivor who has visited Weston in past years (referred to as Andy) will speak for smaller, signed-up groups due to space limits in the library.
Johnson also described an Anne Frank traveling exhibit the district will host: 32 freestanding panels funded by the PTO and staffed by about 20 trained student docents. The exhibit includes docent training and will be scheduled so middle- and high-school cohorts tour with appropriate grade-level context. Johnson said the district has submitted a WEF grant proposal to purchase a companion novel (When We Flew Away) to provide curricular context before the exhibit and noted a community night on May 13 to allow families to tour the exhibit.
No formal action was taken at the subcommittee meeting; district leaders said they will report back after the exhibit and remembrance programming.
