The Riverwoods Board approved a contract with Anderson Environmental Consulting (AEC) to perform subsurface soil borings and a soils materials analysis for the Thorngate subdivision, with a not‑to‑exceed amount of $40,000.
Director of Community Services Janelle Witt told the board that an earlier contractor, Huff and Huff, failed to provide final, binding bids and adequate insurance after months of negotiation. Witt said Anderson Environmental Consulting previously performed asbestos and environmental work for the Federal Life project and had been timely and professional.
Witt described the $40,000 figure as a placeholder and said the actual cost was likely to fall into the low‑$30,000 range once final pricing was confirmed. Trustees described the soils investigation as a necessary first step to addressing recurring water main breaks and other infrastructure concerns in Thorngate.
The board approved the contract by roll call; trustees emphasized the study is an initial investigative step and that further work will depend on findings.
