Pewaukee highlights strong athletics season, first-in-state QPA award and approves WIAA membership renewal

The Pewaukee School District’s athletics and activities staff presented a broad report on the 2023–24 school year, emphasizing competitive and academic accomplishments as well as programmatic progress.
Athletic leadership said 61 percent of high-school students participated in athletics this year (up from 56 percent) and 82 percent of the student body participated in at least one activity. Teams won 10 conference titles, several regional championships and produced state qualifiers; the girls’ swim team earned the school’s first conference swimming title. Staff also highlighted academic success: multiple teams and individual athletes earned academic All-State honors and several teams reported high average GPAs.
Athletic director Jeff said the department earned the NIAAA QPA exemplary high school athletic program recognition after a 10-month cohort review — the first Wisconsin high school to receive that designation — and outlined follow-up steps including coach onboarding, mentor programs and emergency-action-plan drills.
On operations, staff explained the random drug-testing protocol for students who opt into athletics/activities and thereby consent to be in the testing pool. A third-party vendor (ProHealth) generates random selections by student ID; administrators escort students for testing during the school day.
The board moved and approved renewal of Pewaukee School District membership in the WIAA for 2024–25; one board member abstained. No changes to the high-school athletics code were proposed; a few updates aligned the middle-school code to high-school practices.
