Pewaukee board approves minor 2024–25 calendar change; graduation date tentative

The Pewaukee School District on Aug. 14 approved a minor adjustment to the 2024–25 family calendar that moves the end of the student year to Friday, June 6, and preserves contracted staff workdays.

Superintendent Mike Cady told the board the change responds to family feedback and avoids a disruptive partial week at the end of the term. "Our analysis would show that we are safe with meeting minimal hours of instruction, as needed," Cady said, explaining the district plans to add a few minutes to some daily schedules to preserve teacher work obligations.

The plan would reduce scheduled student contact days from 178 in the previously approved calendar to 176. Cady said the district will maintain the 190‑day work calendar for teachers by redistributing staff time: elementary schedules would add roughly five minutes per day for staff team time, while middle and high schools would shorten or shift hours and use academic career‑planning conferences outside standard hours to preserve contracted days.

The board asked about staff involvement and whether principals were working with school leadership to implement the extra minutes; Cady said principals and a superintendent advisory committee had provided feedback and would finalize details. He also said the district is finalizing commencement timing after conflicts with state track dates; staff were tentatively leaning to Saturday, May 31, as the best option but listed May 30, June 1 and June 8 as alternatives.

The board approved the calendar amendment by voice vote; one member recorded an abstention on the motion. The approval includes the schedule adjustments described by district administrators and directs staff to finalize the graduation date and communicate the change to families.
