Board hears staffing, career-readiness and training updates ahead of school year

At the Aug. 13 Franklin Board of Education meeting district administrators summarized staffing levels, summer programs and college-and-career readiness work ahead of the new school year.
Dr. Brennan said approximately 26 new staff have been hired so far this year, down from 44 last year and 66 two years ago, and outlined transition days for incoming ninth and sixth graders. Administrative staff also reported non‑violence de‑escalation training for educational assistants and student services teams taking place over consecutive days.
Staff presenters discussed Academic and Career Planning (ACP) and career‑readiness indicators at Franklin High School and across district programs. Mr. Volo and Mr. Thompson described partnerships with local businesses and the Sabre Business Alliance that provide internships, apprenticeships and hiring pathways—citing CNA program completers and a recent hiring event where students may receive job offers.
Board members asked for data and noted the work will return to the board as a first read before an approval vote. School calendar items, committee meeting dates and a district foundation family event were also announced.
