Farmers Branch events team outlines shift after weather cancellations, plans for Bluegrass and Halloween funding

City events staff presented the third-quarter events report covering April through June and reviewed staffing and planning for the coming year.
Staff said the 'Denton Drive Live' concert series completed its fifth season but suffered partial and full cancellations in May and June due to severe weather; April’s headline event drew about 2,000 attendees. The new events team formalized in May, and staff highlighted hiring Stephanie Perez as events coordinator. Staff reported modest event revenues in April and May but noted cancellations reduced net proceeds.
Planning is underway for Bluegrass, Bloomington Brass and other festivals; tickets and VIP cabanas were placed on sale for fall events. Staff said the city received funding to plan a Halloween event for October 2025 and intends to reestablish a multicultural or events committee to gather community input and proposal development for the following fiscal year.
On volunteers and fundraising, staff described online and paper volunteer sign-ups for the Christmas carnival, shift coverage and a plan to replicate a successful prior-year model. Board members recommended clearer donation signage and a virtual donation/QR code option to increase charitable contributions; staff confirmed scholarship funding remains the destination for donations.
Staff said they will return with committee-formation proposals and an updated events slide deck ahead of the council presentation scheduled for November and December.
