Rutland County planners seek public feedback on draft regional plan amid debate over village centers, housing and energy policies

The Rutland County Regional Planning Commission convened a focused feedback session on a draft regional plan that lays out policies for land use, housing, economic development, transportation, energy and natural resources.

Logan, the commission’s land use planner, outlined the chapter’s central aim of “maintaining historic settlement patterns of a compact village or urban center, separated by rural countrysides,” and reviewed five draft policies that prioritize infill in planned growth areas, restrict development on sensitive lands, encourage clustered development outside village centers, guide public investments toward planned growth areas, and require new development to respect local character.
