Dr. Gatto said the money will support an array of activities and assistance including arts programs, equine therapy and vouchers to support families in crisis.
Dr. Gatto also noted that district representatives participated in a nationwide webinar hosted by the U.S. Department of Education on competency‑based learning, explaining that competency‑based approaches emphasize equity and are increasingly under consideration or use across states. He cited remarks from Deputy Secretary Cindy Martin that linked equity to competency‑based education.
The acting superintendent announced upcoming community fundraising and student-driven events tied to 'Wish Week' — including a $5 car wash for cars and an $8 truck wash and other student activities — with proceeds to benefit a six‑year‑old student in need. He also congratulated students who qualified for state wrestling tournaments and noted coaches and program staff.
Dr. Gatto closed by directing listeners to the Westminster Public Schools Foundation website for sponsorship and event information and thanked the board for its ongoing support during Superintendent Swanson’s family bereavement.
