The Oshkosh Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee voted to recommend that the City Council sponsor Oshkosh Pride and waive the rental fee for the Leech Amphitheatre for the event planned June 29, 2025, from 2 to 7 p.m.
TJ Hobbs, issues coordinator for Oshkosh Pride Incorporated, told the committee the group has grown rapidly and prioritizes free, accessible programming. "We ask today that our DEI committee please give your recommendation to the Oshkosh City Council that our annual Oshkosh Bridal event in June become a city sponsored event," Hobbs said during the presentation.
Hobbs said the group hosted about 600 guests in 2023 and more than 2,000 in 2024 and that the event aims to uplift LGBTQIA2S+ community members while promoting local artists and small businesses. Committee members praised the event’s accessibility and community impact; one member said the event had long waiting lines last year and described it as "absolutely amazing." Another member noted the event provided access to unhoused volunteers and attendees.
Committee members moved and seconded a recommendation to council and approved the motion by roll call. Staff indicated they will place a recommendation on a future City Council agenda for formal consideration.
The committee’s recommendation is advisory; final approval of a fee waiver and sponsorship rests with the City Council.
