Board approves MSU Extension and Conservation District renewal language for August ballot

The Montcalm County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 23 approved ballot language to renew funding for MSU Extension and the Conservation District.
Bill Hendry, MSU Extension district director, told commissioners the office continues programming across agriculture, youth (including 4-H), natural resources and community food initiatives, and cited recent program statistics and volunteer participation. Hendry asked the board to place renewal language on the Aug. 4, 2026 ballot; he described the levy language in the meeting record as a renewal of "that .002, or 20¢ in every $1,000 of taxable value." Faith Hayes of the Conservation District and other board members from the district were present to support the request.
A commissioner moved to approve the ballot language and to place the renewal on the August ballot; the motion was supported and carried by voice vote. The transcript records the request, the program descriptions and the board's approval to put the renewal before voters.
