The Sunny Isles Beach commission paused its workshop to host a police promotional ceremony conducted by the department’s command staff.
The police chief announced a series of promotions: Lieutenant Luke Plisa was promoted to assistant chief; Lieutenant Melissa Porro was recognized as the first female lieutenant promoted from within the department; Lieutenant William Howell (referred to as Bill), Lieutenant Javier Estevez (promoted to lieutenant of investigations) and Sergeant Gino Alfonso were also promoted. Each promoted officer took the oath of office and received badge pinning on the dais. The chief and mayor offered congratulations and invited the commission for photographs and brief refreshments.
