The City Commission approved awarding the construction contract for the Intracoastal Sports Park to MBR Construction, the lowest responsible bidder from a nine-bid solicitation. Staff said the project—originally directed by the commission in 2022—was bid in July and that the conceptual design for the park was unanimously approved in January.
The park will include two lighted tennis courts, a parking lot, an office, workout stations, walking paths and a multiuse court that can accommodate volleyball. City staff said the project was publicly bid and recommended MBR as the low, responsible bidder.
Commissioners voted to approve the award; staff noted some emails opposing the item had been received (approximately seven to eight) but no speakers signed up to speak against the contract at the meeting. The commission also considered related construction-administration services with Keith & Associates.
City staff said the Intracoastal Sports Park procurement process included a shortlist and prior competitive action related to continuing-services agreements; individual project agreements follow the continuing-services selection.
