Linebarger reported an increase in collections for July—/2025 versus the prior period, described outreach efforts and legal steps used when taxpayers do not respond, and noted the firm sold four properties and filed 113 lawsuits during the six-month reporting period.
The board received a semiannual delinquent tax collection report from Jimmy Gonzalez of Linebarger, the district's delinquent-tax collection counsel.
Gonzalez said Linebarger's principal goal is to contact taxpayers and resolve delinquencies through payment agreements and outreach before pursuing litigation. During the past six months the firm mailed over 14,000 statements, made more than 2,000 phone calls, and negotiated 126 payment agreements. When outreach fails, Gonzalez said the firm filed 113 lawsuits in the reporting period; it disposed of 52 of those suits through payment agreements or dismissal, totaling about $355,000, took judgment in 21 cases, and sold four properties (which he said were not homestead-designated accounts).
Gonzalez reported collections rose from about $2,186,000 for July—/2024 to $2,628,000 for the same period in the current reporting cycle, and he described available payment locations and an online payment portal. He emphasized the firm's stated practice of prioritizing payment plans that avoid displacing families and said outreach includes workshops in multiple precincts.
The board had no substantive follow-up questions after the presentation and later approved acceptance of the delinquent tax collection report as part of the consent agenda.
