Board approves routine agenda items, compliance reports and five-year plan

The Henderson County School Board approved several routine items including the consent agenda, required compliance reports and a strategic plan during its meeting.

Board chair opened the meeting and the board moved to approve the consent and regular agenda and the consent agenda, which included monthly financials and last month’s minutes. The motion to approve was made, seconded and carried without recorded roll-call tallies.

Federal Programs Director Stacy Valley presented the annual community service project list — activities range from Socktober drives and nursing-home visits to pet-food collections — and the board voted to record and approve the list in the minutes.

Valley also presented the LEA compliance attestation required under state law; she said the district remains aligned with Tennessee Code Annotated requirements and TSBA-adopted policies. The board approved that attestation.

The board approved the TISA accountability report, which sets two headline goals: to raise third-grade reading proficiency and to address a recent decline in Algebra I scores. Valley said the third-grade reading target in the report is "70 percent of all third graders will be reading on grade level by 2030." The board moved and approved the report after a brief discussion.

Superintendent/Director Mr. Beeson presented a district strategic five-year plan that outlines priorities for instruction, technology, career and technical education and communications; the board moved, seconded and approved the plan.

The meeting adjourned after scheduling the next meeting for November 14 at 6:00 p.m. at Scottsdale High School.
