Iberia Parish council adopts emergency‑pay ordinance, rezones property and fills multiple board seats

At its July 9 meeting the Iberia Parish Council moved through a consent agenda that included adoption of an emergency‑compensation ordinance for essential employees, a zoning reclassification and several appointments to local boards and commissions.
Ordinance summary number 53‑59, amending section 2‑99 of the parish code to provide emergency pay for essential parish employees during disasters and emergency events, was introduced and adopted after the council waived additional readings. The council also approved an ordinance reclassifying 0.49 acres owned by JQ Holdings Inc. from A‑1 Agriculture to I‑1 Industrial (ZC2025‑0005) following a planning commission recommendation.
Councilmembers then adopted a suite of resolutions to appoint or reappoint members to various boards. Pat Norris was reappointed to the Iberia Parish Airport Authority after several residents spoke in support of his service; Catherine Withrow and Sandra Eaglin were among those appointed to library board seats after recorded tablet voting. The council carried multiple other appointment resolutions for the Acadiana Fairgrounds Commission, Waterworks District 3 and fire district boards.
During the meeting council members repeatedly emphasized that many of the boards obtain state and federal grants rather than direct parish tax funding, and several thanked volunteer board members for securing grants for local projects. The council also removed one consent item for unanimous consideration and approved the rest by motion.
What this means: several operational and governance items were finalized at the meeting, while larger policy debates — notably on solar siting — remain pending and will return to later hearings.
