Gurdon schools review ATLAS results and plan targeted "enrichment Fridays" for students

School staff presented assessment data Oct. 15 and described plans for targeted interventions for students who are not meeting standards.
Coach Morrow (introduced by the central office) reviewed ATLAS classroom-quiz data and state assessment performance. As presented, math performance in tested standards ranged roughly 26%–35%, science 25%–36%, and ELA results were described in the mid-to-high 30s with an upper bound discussed in the meeting that appeared as "49%" in the transcript. Morrow said teachers have administered about 413 classroom quizzes over three weeks and will use that data to identify students for extra instruction.
Staff outlined the enrichment-friday model: teachers will nominate students based on a shared spreadsheet of skills not yet mastered; nominated students receive a slip to take home and a bus pass so transportation can be provided. Staff said some parents are contacted via Remind messages, emails or phone calls, and the district plans a parent tutorial for the ATLAS portal so families can view student results online.
Administrators described PLC Friday sessions for teachers to plan cross-curricular interventions and use shared data to focus on retention of skills from prior grades. Staff noted the state board recently approved cut scores for the ATLAS summative, and the district will run interims next week to see how students are performing under the new standards.
Board members asked how parents would be notified and whether remote options would be available; staff said parents could log in and access resources from home if their child could not attend a Friday session.
