The Pullman School District board took several governance actions on July 24, approving instructional material and policy updates and acting on personnel changes.
Dr. Kramer presented a calculus textbook aligned with Eastern Washington University dual-credit work and the board approved the adoption by motion and voice vote. The board also adopted policy 24.15 to add performance-based pathways for high school graduation, clarifying that counselors will present alternatives to students who do not meet tenth-grade exam standards.
Superintendent Dr. Maxwell presented revisions to policy 50.10 (nondiscrimination and affirmative action), stating the updates reflect LAWS-recommended language and additional examples of discriminatory harassment; board members said the clarifications improved clarity for students and staff and approved the revision by motion and voice vote.
In personnel business, the board approved the personnel report after removing it from consent for discussion. The report replaces a vacated director of special services and a TOSA position with an assistant director for special services, consolidating roles to address growing special education needs. Board members also discussed plans to update the information systems director job description and to budget for that position.
What’s next: The district will implement the revised nondiscrimination policy and performance-based graduation options; the assistant director role will be staffed and the information systems director position will be advertised with an updated job description.
