The Select Board on Feb. 9 approved a request from the Cape Cod YMCA to waive building permit fees totaling approximately $169,654 for the organization’s planned new facility.
Stacy Pugh of the Cape Cod YMCA described the project as a long‑term investment in youth development, healthy living and social programming and asked the board to treat the fee waiver as a town partnership. "When we ask you to consider waiving these permit fees, we are asking you to invest in that journey," Pugh said.
Town staff reviewed the request and recommended waiving the building inspection fees while noting third‑party inspection requirements and the potential effect on municipal revenue was limited because the revenues had not been budgeted. After questions about inspection responsibilities—and assurances that the sub‑trade fee waiver would be addressed in a later request—the board voted unanimously to waive the $169,654 building permit fees.
Board members urged the YMCA to work closely with town staff during inspections and thanked volunteers and donors who supported the project. The waiver carries the condition that any future requests for sub‑trade fee waivers will be considered separately.
