Park Ridge CCSD 64 board approves playground installations at Field and Franklin

Park Ridge CCSD 64 trustees voted to approve a bid from Play Illinois in coordination with BCI Burke Group to install playgrounds at Field Elementary and Franklin Elementary, the board confirmed during its Feb. 19 meeting.
Margaret Chidesz (introduced by the board as representing Burke and Play, Illinois) and project staff described Phase 2 of the district’s referendum playground work, saying the designs emphasize inclusive play, sensory areas and calm spaces for students. The presentation said planned features include ramps for accessibility, inclusive spinners, a poured rubber sensory path, shaded music areas, seating and separate play structures for younger students. The presenter said the projects will be scheduled between June and July, with Kids Around the World removing and refurbishing equipment from some sites for shipment to Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
The board also heard financial details. The presenter said each school’s project includes a $15,000 contingency allowance for unforeseen work (drainage, site complications) that will be removed from the final cost if unused. The presentation listed a PTO contribution of $83,118 to cover amenities such as adjustable basketball systems, shade and additional equipment.
An unidentified board member moved to approve the quote as provided by Play Illinois, LLC in coordination with BCI Burke Group, LLC for installation at Field and Franklin; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. No board member opposed the measure.
The presenter said the district will require Kids Around the World to provide a donation letter and a certificate of insurance before equipment removals, and that weekly updates and a construction timeline will be shared with the board during the summer. The district will also share photos and stories from the destination community once the donated equipment is installed.
Board action will allow district staff to finalize contracts and schedule construction work with the vendor over the spring and early summer.
