The Martinsville Arts & Culture Committee will apply for a $25,000 Harvest Foundation PUB grant to install public-art benches made from recycled wind-turbine blades, the committee chair told council. Kathleen Duncan said the project aims to create two installations and pay an artist; if awarded, the company requires a 3–6 month build-out.
Duncan described the benches as made from retired turbine blades with a durable coating and a warranty; she said the material is anti-graffiti and expected to last 20-plus years. The committee asked for the council’s support to submit the grant application, and council approved the application request on voice vote.
Staff said the committee is still determining exact placement and will work with council on siting if the grant is awarded.
